Letter to the President of the Italian Republic

1274

Barcelona, August 15, 2018

EGREGIOUS MR
SERGIO MATTARELLA
President of the Italian Republic
Palazzo Quirinale
ROMA

MR PRESIDENT,

The Spanish rromá, and with them all the Italian rromá and rromniá, as well as those of us who are part of the INTERNACIONAL ROMANI UNION, we would like to extend to you, President of the Republic, our deep condolences for the victims caused by the collapse of a part of the Morandi bridge in the city of Genoa.

We, European rromá, -as in any other part of the planet-, who consider ourselves “citizens of the world”, feel as if they were from our family, the pain experienced by the parents, mothers and brothers of the 39 people who have seen mowed their lives in an unexpected and deadly accident.

In these difficult times for the rromà community in Italy, ―which are for reasons that you, Mr President, know very well―, the Italian rromá adopt the words of a gypsy from Seville who recently said: “When you need a heart we do not look at who he is from, it does not matter if he is from a rrom or from any other person. We must help each other. Rromá are neither better nor worse than others.”

Today, Mr. President of the Italian Republic, the heart of all the rromá of the world is next to yours and to the relatives of the victims to share their pain with all of you.

Latchó drom (Good way)

Vice President of the International Romani Union

Barcellona, 15 agosto 2018

Onorevole Signor
SERGIO MATTARELLA
Presidente della Repubblica Italiana
Palazzo Quirinale
ROMA

Stimato Presidente:
